Alaska Airlines’ California growth continues, adding six new nonstop routes from San Diego

Alaska is the fastest-growing airline in San Diego with 40 daily departures to 28 destinations

Update: Previous version of news release issued contained an incorrect start date for San Diego-Omaha route.

SAN DIEGO, March 15, 2017 /360WiseNews/ — Alaska Airlines today announced increased investment in Southern California by adding service to six new destinations from San Diego International Airport. New nonstop service includes daily flights to Albuquerque, New Mexico; Austin, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri; Minneapolis/St. Paul; Omaha, Nebraska; and St. Louis. By late August, Alaska will fly 40 daily departures to 28 destinations from San Diego, including the most nonstop flights to Mexico and Hawaii.

Alaska is quickly establishing itself as the go-to airline for people on the West Coast. Today’s news comes on the heels of Alaska’s announcement last week adding 13 nonstop routes from the Bay Area – the single largest announcement in company history.

“Alaska Airlines has grown more than any other carrier in San Diego over the last five years, with the addition of 18 nonstop destinations and nearly twice as many departing seats,” said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning at Alaska Airlines. “We want to thank Airport Authority President and CEO Thella Bowens and her terrific team for their partnership. Without Thella’s strong leadership and support over the years, our growth wouldn’t have been possible.”

The new flights build on previously announced routes, which include daily nonstop flights between San Diego and Baltimore starting today, three-times-daily service between San Diego and Sacramento starting tomorrow, and daily service between San Diego and Mexico City. Flight schedules for Mexico City will be announced in the coming months, pending government approval.

From San Diego, guests can make convenient connections to Tokyo and London, served by partner carriers Japan Airlines and British Airways, while enjoying the benefits of Alaska’s award-winning customer service and loyalty program. Keep Reading

International Medical Corps and Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Launch The Things We Carry Campaign, Highlighting Plight of Syrian Refugees

in BREAKING NEWS/campaign/global/Partnership/Press Release/refugee/Today In History/war by

LOS ANGELES, March 7, 2017 /360WiseNews/ — In an effort to keep public attention on the ongoing needs of millions of Syrian refugees, International Medical Corps and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation are launching The Things We Carry, a campaign featuring the children, men and women who have fled six years of war in their country – and what they carried with them to safety.

The campaign, which will roll out across media platforms, includes an interactive tool for viewers to choose what they would carry with them if they were suddenly forced from their homes – and to explore the stories of twelve Syrians who faced that agonizing choice.

“While this war has been grinding on for nearly six years, and global attention has ebbed and flowed in that time, the Syrian people continue to endure tremendous suffering, and we must not forget them,” said Rebecca Milner, Vice President of Institutional Advancement for International Medical Corps. “Our goal with this campaign is to help people imagine what it’s like to have to flee your home at a moment’s notice, to save your life or that of your family – and to be able to take only one thing with you. What would that one thing be? For these refugees, leaving their homes and everything they know is not a choice, but a matter of life and death.”

“While the suffering of Syrian refugees continues, international humanitarian response increasingly falls short of what is needed to address their growing needs,” said Shaheen Kassim-Lakha, Director of International Programs for the Hilton Foundation.  “With millions of refugees rapidly turning into a lost generation, it is vital to develop innovative communications campaigns such as this to bring more attention to the crisis.”

International Medical Corps operates in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey, delivering lifesaving medical relief and training programs aimed at helping people recover, rebuild and become their own best first responders.  The Hilton Foundation has been supporting International Medical Corps’ programs for Syrian refugees in Turkey since 2013.

To participate in the campaign, visit The Things We Carry social media toolkit.

Since its inception 30 years ago, International Medical Corps‘ mission has been consistent: relieve the suffering of those impacted by war, natural disaster, and disease by delivering vital health care services that focus on training. This approach of helping people help themselves is critical to returning devastated populations to self-reliance. For more information visit: www.InternationalMedicalCorps.org. The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation was created in 1944 by international business pioneer Conrad N. Hilton, who founded Hilton Hotels and left his fortune to help the world’s disadvantaged and vulnerable people. The Foundation currently conducts strategic initiatives in six priority areas: providing safe water, ending chronic homelessness, preventing substance use, helping young children affected by HIV and AIDS, supporting transition-age youth in foster care, and extending Conrad Hilton’s support for the work of Catholic Sisters. In addition, following selection by an independent international jury, the Foundation annually awards the $2 million Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize to a nonprofit organization doing extraordinary work to alleviate human suffering. In 2016, the Humanitarian Prize was awarded to The Task Force for Global Health, an international, nonprofit organization that works to improve health of people most in need, primarily in developing countries. From its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $1.5 billion in grants, distributing $109 million in the U.S. and around the world in 2016. The Foundation’s current assets are approximately $2.6 billion. For more information, please visit www.hiltonfoundation.org.

Avon And The Avon Foundation For Women Boost Global Commitment To Ending Domestic Violence With Their Largest Single Donation To Front-Line Services

– Avon proudly supports International Women’s Day and its campaign for #BeBoldForChange by taking bold action against domestic violence

– The Avon Foundation for Women awards its single largest donation of nearly £2 million for female victims of gender-based violence

– Avon to release new research into domestic violence [at Somerset House, London]

LONDON, March 6, 2017 /360WiseNews/ — The Avon Foundation for Women, the world’s largest corporate-affiliated philanthropy focused on issues that matter most to women, has today pledged its largest single donation, nearly £2 million, for female victims of gender-based violence.  £1 million of these funds will be granted across four countries, Argentina, Romania, South Africa and the UK, to help front-line domestic violence services.

In addition,  a nearly £1 million grant to Vital Voices Global Partnership will support The Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence, an innovative training program which aims to facilitate effective coordinated criminal justice responses to addressing violence against women in countries around the world. This donation forms part of Avon’s commitment to ending domestic violence and supporting survivors worldwide, and marks the launch of a new global Avon campaign focused on a range of issues of importance to women over the coming years.

Combating global domestic violence
As an official partner of International Women’s Day, Avon is committed to speaking out against domestic violence and supporting the #BeBoldForChange global initiative. In the UK Avon has joined forces with Refuge, the UK charity committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated. Together Avon and Refuge have carried out an in-depth study that looks at a recently recognised area of coercive control, particularly impacting women aged 16 – 21, and the findings will form the basis of a new campaign to shift the dial on this type of abuse.

Globally, Avon has been addressing the social issues that matter most to women for over 130 years.  The new UK research reflects wider insights gathered across other countries in which Avon is active. In Brazil, a recent study found that 42% of university students feared being the victim of violence in an academic environment. In Romania, new insights found that young adults struggle to find healthy relationship role models, and two thirds of teenagers said they had witnessed a physical or verbal violent episode between a couple.

[The new research will be shared with an influential audience made up of global experts and stakeholders working to combat domestic violence at an event at Somerset House in London on Monday 6 March.  The event and adjoining exhibition celebrates the collective efforts of Avon, its Representatives, partners, associates, consumers, and supporters around the world that continue to fundraise and raise critical awareness for its causes.]

Funding commitments
Since Avon was founded more than 130 years ago, the company has been breaking barriers and empowering women by offering a path to financial independence and improved health and safety.   This year’s International Women’s Day focuses on the #BeBoldForChange initiative, and as part of this, Avon Foundation for Women’s global commitment includes:

  • The Avon Foundation’s grant of £1 million for front-line services in the UK, South Africa, Romania and Argentina*. In the UK, this includes a grant of £250,000 to Refuge** to support its front-line services, which will fund the equivalent of over 4,800 nights in a refuge for a woman and her children.
  • Globally, nearly £1 million in new funding will expand The Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence, an innovative training program within Voices Against Violence – a public-private partnership between Vital Voices Global Partnership, the U.S. Department of State, and the Avon Foundation for Women – which aims to facilitate effective, coordinated criminal justice responses to addressing violence against women in countries around the world.
  • The Justice Institute is a ground-breaking initiative which convenes judges, court officers, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, representatives of government agencies and non-governmental service providers with the aim of making the laws keep their promise. Through its multi-disciplinary training style, the Institute fosters collaboration between allied professionals and seeks to improve both victim protection efforts and criminal justice responses to violence against women around the world.
  • To date, the Avon Foundation has invested more than £2 million to launch and convene 10 Justice Institutes in eight countries including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, India, Mexico, Nepal, Philippines and South Africa.

All-New Zero-Emissions-Capable London Taxi Tested to Extremes in Arctic Circle

in automotive/global/international/Press Release/Travel by
Reading Time: 2 minutes

COVENTRY, England, March 6, 2017 /360WiseNews/ — New pictures from London Taxi Company (LTC) demonstrate part of the extreme testing programme the all-new electric black cab is undergoing.

Under way now in the lower reaches of the Arctic Circle, the regime to check the vehicle performance in even the harshest conditions will only get more stringent over the coming weeks, with the taxi set to be cooled down in giant fridges to -49°C.

These checks seek to guarantee that the vehicle will always start, perform and enjoy class-leading electric battery powered range in the harshest of temperatures. The new range extended electric taxi will also undergo similar endurance testing in extreme heat environments before it is deemed ready for sale.

Quality Director Wolfram Liedtke explains: “Our new taxi is being developed with two key engineering principles – quality and endurance, to meet the needs of the demanding taxi duty cycle.  We soon commit the product to series production at our all-new manufacturing facility in Ansty, near Coventry.  It will be, without doubt, the highest quality and resilient product in London Taxi’s 98 year history.”

The testing programme also serves to check the quality of driver and passenger experience in extreme conditions. This means checking that cab heating and ventilation continue to perform to the highest standards – no matter how bitter or oppressive the temperature outside.

Driving experience is also checked – with the impact of grip, drivability and visibility tested to extremes.  LTC engineers can then make adjustments to ensure that passengers and drivers have the best and most comfortable experience, regardless of the conditions outside.

Steve McNamara, General Secretary at the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association, says: “This new clean, modern, 21st century vehicle will ensure that the world’s best cab drivers now have the best tool for the job.”

London Taxi Company CEO, Chris Gubbey, says: “Given these extremes of testing – we are demonstrating that our vehicle will be a taxi for London and the world over, capable and at home in any city.”

LTC is due to open its new facility on the 22nd March 2017 thanks to a £300 million-pound investment from parent company Geely.

Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council Statement on President’s Condemnation of Hate Crimes

in BREAKING NEWS/global/Government and Politics/Partnership/Politics/Press Release by
Reading Time: 2 minutes

NEW YORK, March 1, 2017 /360WiseNews/ — We agree with the President’s assertion in his speech at the Joint Session of Congress that “we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all its forms.” Our organization exemplifies that idea – the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council was established to unite the voices of our communities in condemning and combating hate crimes, anti-Semitism, and anti-Muslim bigotry.

That is why we call on the President not only to continue denouncing crimes against people of faith because of their faith, but also to take concrete steps to ensure that these crimes are investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Hate crimes against Jews and Muslims because of their religion are on the rise. In the past six weeks, mosques in the states of Washington, Florida, and Texas have been burned in arson attacks.  Bomb threats against Jewish community centers, which began in January, are continuing, and two Jewish cemeteries have been vandalized. Prompt and unambiguous condemnation of such crimes reassure the affected communities and reinforce the notion that such actions are unacceptable, a message that the President needs to reiterate more actively and forcefully.

We urge the President to take two measures immediately. First, instruct the Attorney General to prioritize investigation and prosecution of hate crimes, and the U.S. attorneys throughout the country to engage more closely with affected communities and state and local law enforcement on hate crimes cases. Second, ensure that funding for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice is strengthened in the administration’s 2017 budget submission to Congress. The Civil Rights Division of DOJ must have the resources to respond to the rise in hate crimes by increasing its engagement with states and localities in upholding the nation’s civil rights laws. DreamMaker launches Flight of the Falcons: $14,789,000 Private Jet Trip Circumnavigating the Globe

The luxury travel boutique offers 21 cities in 21 days for Gulf Market

HOUSTON, Texas, Feb. 28, 2017 /360WiseNews/ — Experiential travel boutique DreamMaker has designed a trip around the globe aboard a privately outfitted Boeing 767 for its ultra-high net worth clientele.  Flight of the Falcons is a special trip for the Gulf market, styled as a milestone celebration for the billionaire client and up to 49 friends and family flying in tandem on a second Boeing Business Jet.  Offered at $14,789,000, the unprecedented DreamMaker experience is slated for August 2017, covering 21 cities in 21 days.

Flight of the Falcons is the first of its kind to completely circumnavigate the globe and cover 50,000 kilometers in the air.  The trip includes an astonishing time ratio of 88% on the ground and 12% in the air.  “Having set benchmarks since 1988, we wanted to offer an experience that that billionaires lack the creativity and time to design – to create a story would take hours to tell,” says founder and experience designer℠ Gregory Patrick. ” In 2017, we will be the first to introduce Experiential Aviation℠ as the pinnacle of private aviation.”

Highlights in the air include French and Italian fashion shows, tea sommeliers, a master perfumer, an acclaimed artist performing a fusion of “air ballet” and contemporary circus, and a carousel of personalities and celebrities hopping on and off the jets.

Thinking far beyond flat beds, chef-inspired cuisine, and amenity kits, DreamMaker has appointed holistic health guru April Norris to develop a program that integrates cutting-edge wearable sleep technology with alternative wellness techniques such as Reiki healing, Ayurvedic medicine, and the attention of a Doctor of Acupuncture. “It is irrelevant how big and beautiful your private jet is if you are unable to relax comfortably or get the required amount of sleep on the plane,” says Patrick.  To ensure the utmost comfort for its guests, Flight of the Falcons will boast a one-to-one ratio of guest to staff, with a cast of 50 hand-picked international professionals, each expert in their respective fields.

Partner World of Diamonds Group was commissioned to create the trip’s most luxurious amenity; a set of 18-karat gold swizzle sticks set with white and blue diamonds worth a total of one million dollars.  Crafted into a spinning globe atop the 50 swizzle sticks is one rare fancy blue diamond evoking the blue skies traversed, flanked by 20 white sparklers, each representing every city landing of Flight of the Falcons.

In line with the 50 signature DreamMaker experiences offered on the journey, London’s Hotel 41 will be the first in the world to completely rebrand its identity to “Hotel 50” and accommodate the unique story with its famously personalized service.  Every monogram on terrycloth bathrobes, towels, bed linens, slippers, and stationary will be newly commissioned for the trip. Even the marble tile and its iconic flag outside will reflect the branding of Passport to 50.  Other ground highlights include a period dinner with a member of the British Royal family, racing supercars against a Hollywood star on a private track in Las Vegas, and a private fashion show in Cannes. Other experiences entail personal styling services in Florence and traveling with two chefs who will replicate the client’s favorite of three past award winning “London’s Best Afternoon Tea” while in the air and in many of the cities they touch down in.

The Flight of the Falcons experience directly benefits children through experiential giving, such as the distribution of 2,500 bicycles to enable rural children to attend school, the provision of clean drinking water for 50,000 at-risk children in the region, as well as building “fun centers” for 50,000 children battling life-threatening illnesses in the United Kingdom.  “Through this trip, we have a way to act as a conduit to positively impact children’s lives,” says Patrick.   “It makes no sense to work so hard to please the most discerning of clientele without making the same effort to balance the decadence with an element of kindness that delivers higher levels of fulfilment.”  Charity partners include Water.org, Starlight Children’s Foundation U.K., and Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Flight of the Falcons begins in Bali, and continues onto Komodo , Koh Samui, Kathmandu, Agra, Florence, Siena, Cannes, Moulinet, London, Barcelona, Ibiza, Marbella, Marrakech, Havana, Las Vegas, Kona, El Nido, and a Secret Island, before concluding in Manila.  The trip is currently being offered at $14,789,000 for a party of up to 50 people in August of 2017.
