If you follow the Saints on Snapchat, you were treated to a bizarre sight on Sunday afternoon.

The team ran out for player introductions under plumes of machine-generated smoke to the usual fanfare – except there were no fans. The background of that video, and anything on the Fox broadcast that wasn’t their typical high angle shot of the on-field action, featured the dark abyss of the empty Superdome in the background.

It’s one thing to watch other teams play in empty stadiums. But it’s something else entirely when the mecca of New Orleans sports is robbed of all its, shall we say, well-lubricated character.
